There are buildings that, over time, transcend their physical presence within the city to become part of its collective memory. Within their walls, stories, encounters, and shared experiences are preserved, passing from one generation to the next and giving them an identity that endures beyond time. It is this respect for architectural heritage that has guided the work of L&A Architects, a practice founded in 2013 by Labinot Boçolli and Arion Thaqi. Driven by a culture of collaboration and a continuous pursuit of creativity and design excellence, the studio has developed a diverse portfolio ranging from residential and commercial projects in Kosovo to complex developments across the European market. Every commission is approached as a process in which function, form, and human experience are seamlessly integrated, with the ambition of creating architecture that retains its relevance and value over time. Palace Hotel & SPA in Mitrovica is one of the city's defining landmarks, a building that has been an integral part of its public and social life for decades. Its bold geometric volumes and the rhythmic articulation of its façade have established a distinctive presence within Mitrovica's urban skyline. Beyond its role as a hotel, it has long served as a venue for gatherings, celebrations, and significant civic events, becoming an enduring point of reference in the city's collective memory. This legacy became the starting point for the project, whose ambition was to preserve the building's architectural character while adapting it to the expectations of contemporary hospitality.
The interior design is conceived around a careful balance between elegance and comfort. The spatial organisation creates a seamless guest experience, while the considered use of materials, textures, and lighting establishes an atmosphere of tranquillity and well-being. Guest rooms are designed as intimate and restorative retreats, conference facilities provide flexibility and functionality for professional events, while the spa and fitness areas offer environments dedicated to relaxation and wellness. The restaurants complete this experience through a refined interior language that combines sophistication with a welcoming ambience. For L&A Architects, the project represented the responsibility of intervening in a building that occupies a significant place within Mitrovica's urban identity. The design process required a careful interpretation of the building's existing character, combined with a contemporary reimagining of its interior spaces, preserving its spirit while enriching it with a renewed experience for today's visitors. Palace Hotel & SPA demonstrates that architecture achieves enduring value when it respects the memory of a place while creating the conditions for it to remain an active part of the city's life for generations to come.
