Founded in 2008, STUDIO-REBUS has built its practice around the pursuit of an architecture that emerges from its context and responds to the needs of the community. The studio is guided by the conviction that buildings should establish balanced relationships with history, nature, and public life, integrating seamlessly into their surroundings without relying on excessive formal expression. Through a critical and restrained design approach, STUDIO-REBUS develops architecture that is accessible, socially responsive, and deeply rooted in its context. This philosophy has been consistently reflected in the studio's success in numerous national and international design competitions, where its projects have received awards and recognition across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
The concept of the Kombinat Social Centre originates from a reinterpretation of the building's role as a place of care, coexistence, and community development. Rather than adopting the form of a monolithic structure, the project is conceived as an ensemble of two distinct volumes that clearly articulate the principal functions of the programme while introducing a more human scale in relation to both its users and the surrounding neighbourhood. The site's topography is employed as a compositional element, generating spatial relationships that extend beyond direct visual connections and create a continuous experience of movement throughout the complex.
The architectural concept is founded upon the principle of universal accessibility, where circulation is understood not merely as a functional necessity but as the spatial experience that connects the building with the landscape and the public realm. A continuous architectural promenade links the interior spaces with terraces and outdoor areas, creating a fluid sequence in which activities and social interactions unfold without rigid boundaries between inside and outside. In this way, the building becomes an open social platform where architecture actively supports inclusion, communication, and a shared sense of belonging.
For STUDIO-REBUS, this project represents a clear expression of the studio's design philosophy, in which architecture is valued not for formal gestures but for the positive impact it creates within the community. The Kombinat Social Centre demonstrates that a public building can be simultaneously restrained in expression, coherent in organisation, and rich in the experiences it offers. By placing people at the centre of the design process, the project embodies the studio's vision of architecture as an inclusive, responsible, and socially engaged discipline capable of creating spaces that strengthen human relationships, foster community, and uphold human dignity.
