Atria Studio perceives architecture as an act of reinvention, where every intervention represents an opportunity to redefine the meaning of place and strengthen its relationship with people's everyday lives. Established in Tirana in 2017, the practice develops architectural, urban design, and engineering projects that combine rigorous contextual analysis with contemporary design thinking. Through a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, Atria Studio creates environments that respect local identity, respond to contemporary challenges, and generate lasting value for future generations. The Bedrie Bebeziqi Primary and Lower Secondary School in Durrës emerged from the ambition to transform a building severely damaged by the 2019 earthquake into a safe, inspiring, and contemporary educational environment. Responding to the site's spatial constraints and the high density of its urban setting, the project organizes its programme around an open courtyard that maximizes natural daylight while serving as the social heart of the educational building. Rather than merely resolving the functional requirements of the programme, the architecture creates an environment where learning, play, and social interaction coexist in harmony.
The architectural composition clearly organises the building's functions in accordance with the educational programmes implemented by the school, while the façade becomes a defining element of its identity through the use of vibrant colours and geometric shading devices that animate the building's appearance. Light, colour, and the rhythmic articulation of architectural elements generate a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere, transforming the school into more than a place of education—it becomes an environment that fosters creativity, well-being, and a strong sense of belonging for both children and the wider community. For Atria Studio, this project represents far more than the realisation of an educational facility. Conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic and developed as a response to the devastating consequences of the 2019 earthquake, it embodies the belief that architecture can serve as a powerful instrument of reconstruction, hope, and social transformation. The national and international recognition the project has received has established it as a defining reference within the studio's portfolio, celebrated not only for its architectural quality but also for the message it conveys—that even in the most challenging circumstances, architecture has the capacity to restore confidence and inspire a better future.
