Liverstock Market
The building rises with an air of lightness and openness.
The clarity of its circular form and the deep roof define
the building strongly within the landscape, making it
one of the most prominent features of the surrounding
context. The project draws inspiration from the cyclical
nature of market typology and takes shape as a meeting point between two life cycles - those of human and
animal actors within the space. Formally, this encounter
occurs at the central square of the market. The ensemble appears as an anthropocentric symbol, almost like
a panopticon that exalts human power but, in fact, carries a completely contrasting symbolism. The structure
serves as a sundial, symbolizing the passage of time
and the fragile nature of human authority over it.
The Livestock Market is a versatile space, adaptable to
various functions, easily transformed into a agricultural market, an open-air venue for cultural activities, and
more. The building takes form within a context with limited architectural precedents. The architectural typology itself is not widely disseminated and lacks the luster
and precedents found in other typologies, as would be
the case with a museum, for example.

In these circumstances, the designers have had to engage in dialogues that transcend the site’s tangible aspects. The building manifests itself with subtle cues yet
manages to make an impression. The unconventional
architectural type encourages one to seek innovation.
In its entirety, the aforementioned dynamics have rendered this project distinctive, affording ample space for
experimentation and abstraction, a rare opportunity in
this context.
